KingSpry Partner Avery E. Smith provided commentary for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s En Banc Session, which was broadcast on PCN TV on August 9, 2023.

In her remarks, Ms. Smith utilized her legal knowledge to review the basic facts of two cases and highlight the arguments viewers could expect to arise during the hearings.
In this session, the Court considered Erie Insurance Exchange v. United States Auto, Corey v. WIlkes-Barre Hospital, Commonwealth v. Redanauer and Glover v. Junior. Ms. Smith commented on the latter two.
Commonwealth v. Redanauer involved the arrest of a police officer, which later provoked the concern of Double Jeopardy and the rights of the criminally accused.
Glover v. Junior addressed the legal parental status of a same-sex spouse during the biological mother’s pregnancy, which focused on the marital presumption principle.
“I really enjoyed the educational aspects of this program,” Ms. Smith said of her experience. “So much of the law is practiced behind closed doors. The Superior Court with PCN has created a wonderful opportunity for the public to view impactful cases. I found myself fully invested in the cases and look forward to reading the Court’s decisions.”
A recording of the broadcast is available on demand for PCN TV subscribers.
Ms. Smith serves as Employment Law Practice Group Chair for KingSpry. She focuses her practice in employment, education, estate and family law.
