James J. Ravelle

Dr. James Ravelle is both an attorney and a college professor at Moravian College in Bethlehem. He practices in the areas of employment labor, business, banking, and corporate law. He also has extensive experience as a commercial and labor arbitrator and in civil litigation.

At Moravian College, Dr. Ravelle received the Christian and Mary Lindback Award for Outstanding Teaching and he is a two-time recipient of the Timothy Briedigam Award for Outstanding Faculty Service. Dr. Ravelle has also been elected seven times to serve as the faculty commencement speaker by the graduating classes at Moravian. A well-known expert in the area of public sector labor relations and financial law, Dr. Ravelle is the author of over a dozen academic papers and articles.

In his lengthy career, Dr. Ravelle has served as a solicitor to labor unions, corporations, banks, and local governmental units. He is also a former Board member and President of Brafferton Financial, LLC.

At Moravian College, Dr. Ravelle served as the Chair of the Department of Economics and Business, the Chair of the Department of Sociology, and he is a former member of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Ravelle received his B.A. from Villanova University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. At USC, he was selected to join the Moot Court Bar. Dr. Ravelle also earned a Doctorate of Arts degree in Public Administration and Labor Economics from Lehigh University, where he was a Carnegie Fellow. His dissertation was entitled, “An Analysis of Pay Comparability and of Federal Sector Workers.”
