The term infertility applies to a wide range of medical problems that prevent conception and/or carrying a pregnancy to term. Individuals affected by infertility require a support network to assist in navigating the vast array of decisions to be made following diagnosis.
These decisions may include whether to undergo testing, whether to pursue fertility or other treatments, and whether to continue attempts to build a family with children
Individuals and couples may benefit from support groups as a safe place to discuss feelings and options. Family and friends of these individuals may also benefit from learning about infertility and addressing their own feelings in response to the condition. RESOLVE, the national infertility association, has wonderful resources available on its website http://www.resolve.org/ including links to support groups as well as information for family and friends of individuals struggling with infertility
Earlier this month, we noted the importance of family supports and community connections in preventing child abuse. It is not surprising that a support network is important throughout one’s journey in family decision-making, as well. #StartAsking for help and #StartAsking how you can help!
All this week, KingSpry’s ART Law Practice Group is marking Infertility Week by summarizing related legal issues. #StartAsking – and stay posted.
