KingSpry has proudly sponsored the Womens’ 5K Classic as a Gold Sponsor for many years, and this year, twenty-nine women will wear pink KingSpry logos for the day, our largest team ever.
Team Captain Niki Armstrong has a very personal connection to this event, having lost a sister to breast cancer a few years ago.
“My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at 30 years old — she later passed away at age 32.” While her sister was fighting the cancer, she and Niki discovered they had inherited the BRCA1 gene mutation from their father’s side of the family. Shortly after Niki lost her sister, she underwent a preventative mastectomy at the age of 26.
“Cancer comes in all forms and does not discriminate against age, gender or race,” she says. “It affects everyone in one way or another, through a friend, neighbor, or in your own family. I look forward to participating in the Womens’ 5K Classic this year with my co-workers, friends and family, and hope that one day, a cure can be found.”
The race, which takes place at Little Lehigh Parkway in Allentown on Saturday, October 18, is in its 22nd year of helping to raise awareness for womens’ cancers.
Niki adds, “To everyone who walks in this year’s ‘Parade of Champions’ during the ceremony, I commend you for your strength and bravery. Go, PINK!!!!”
