KingSpry is helping Valley Youth House collect items to help foster care youth in our area get ready to go back to school this fall.
The “Backpack Challenge” runs now through August 23, 2018, and will provide important supplies for kids going back to high school or off to college.
“Kids in care have been torn from their family of origin, and are living temporarily with families they may not have met before. In these situations, providing school supplies can be a small, but real boost,” says adoption attorney Rebecca Young, who is a former president of Project Child’s Steering Committee, a program of Valley Youth House.
“Kids in care have enough to worry about. As agencies work to achieve permanency and a stable home-life for youth in care, programs like the Backpack Challenge can help promote a sense of normalcy and help them be more successful in school.”
These are the items that will be most helpful (for kids ages 14-21):
- Backpacks
- Calculators
- Combination locks
- Day planners
- Flash drives
- Folders
- Gift cards
- Hand sanitizer
- Highlighters
- Index Cards
- Lanyards and Keychains
- Pens, Pencils, Erasers
- Pocket sized tissue packs
- Post-it notes
- Pre-paid cell phones
- Rulers
- SAT prep books
- Scientific Calculators
- Spiral Notebooks
- Three-ring binders
- Water Bottles
While the program originated out of the Valley Youth House Philadelphia office, all items collected at KingSpry’s offices will go to kids in the Lehigh Valley. If you are visiting our offices in the next few weeks, we invite you to consider bringing something to add to the box.
