Dr. Kathleen Conn, PhD, JD, LLM, Of Counsel, will present a webinar for PSBA on February 17, 2021.
Dr. Conn’s course examines the litigation and arguments that Title IX should also protect LGBT individuals in K-12 and postsecondary educational institutions.
Two federal civil rights laws protect individuals from discrimination “on the basis of sex.” The first is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the second is Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title VII protects employees from sex-based discrimination in the workplace and Title IX similarly protects persons in federally funded educational institutions. The Supreme Court’s June 2020 ruling established that Title VII protects not only individuals of biological male-female sex from sex-based discrimination, but also LGBT individuals in the workplace.
